About us

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in people over 60 and accounts for 90% of new cases of blindness in Canada. Early diagnosis is critical to preserve a patient’s vision, unfortunately, studies show that up to 25% of people over 60 show early signs of AMD that their eye doctor has not detected. Mandel Diagnostics has developed a device to detect the most common cause of vision loss, affecting 1 in 5 people over 60, with a 1-minute screening test. Early detection allows eye doctors to apply new treatments that, unlike retinal injections, don’t require referral to a surgeon, save payers up to $8,000 each year, and allow patients to preserve their vision into their 90s and beyond. Today, our device detects age-related macular degeneration with an automated test. Tomorrow, this hardware will detect a range of conditions, from macular edema to Alzheimer’s, enhanced with over-the-air software updates.
